RAFT WV History letter

After learning about West Virginia’s struggles to secede from Virginia and become a state, imagine that you are a citizen of then western Virginia writing a letter to President Lincoln, pleading with him to grant you and your fellow neighbors the honor of becoming your own state.
R: western Virginia citizen
A: President Lincoln
F: a letter
T: allowing your area to secede and become its own state

  Dear Mr. President,
I understand that it is your sincere wish that you no longer see this country be split a part, but I truly believe that this is now the only option for me and my neighbors. The issues that are causing us to want to leave our mother state are not new and can no longer be overlooked.  Virginia’s decision to secede and then to fight against their own brothers, fathers, and sons was the final straw.
As you may realize, the surrounding circumstances for this request are quite unusual seeing as how we legally no longer have a mother state to sign off on this declaration and Virginia no longer acknowledges us due to our government agreeing to be a Union supporting state, so I am begging you to please end our turmoil and give us our freedom.
Sincerely,
Johnny Reb
